What do you get in Chat?
Direct Messages: Send and receive messages
Starred: Star important conversations to review later
@Mentions: Shows you the conversations in which you have been directly mentioned
Threads: Organize conversations within a Space (group chat). Instead of a single, continuous stream of messages, threads allow for focused side conversations within a broader topic.
Spaces/ Group Conversations: Collaborate among teams and groups of people.

To let others know when you're available, you can change your status in chats or spaces.
Change your status
On your computer, open Gmail.
At the top right, next to your status indicator, click the Down arrow .
Choose: Automatic, Do not disturb, or Set as away.
Set a custom status
On your computer, open Google Chat or Gmail.
From your status indicator at the top, click the Down arrow.
Click Add a status.
Follow the prompt to choose an emoji, write a status message, or end or clear a status.
Click Done.
Delete a custom status
On your computer, open Google Chat or Gmail.
From your status indicator at the top, click the Down arrow.
Click the status to delete.
Click X.

Give your space a name and a profile picture(Profile picture is optional)
Specify the function of the space.
Collaboration space: collaborate with others; share files, assign tasks and organise your conversations by threads.
Announcements: Used for broadcasts and updates
Set the access settings.
Private: Invite only
Allow external members to join spaces- these are members outside your organisation
NOTE: Space access settings cannot be modified after the space creation.
Create the space
By default, the history settings are on.

You now have your space. Add your members
On your computer, open Google Chat or Gmail.
In Gmail: On the left, click Chat.
On the left, select the space you want to update.
At the top, next to the space name, click the Down arrow Space settings.
Under “Permissions,” select whether all members of the space or only space managers can:
Modify space details
Turn history on or off
Use @all
Manage apps
Manage webhooks
Click Save.
